Context
BabyRage appeared at the end of August 2014 and was an instant talking point: 'BabyRage is the new Kappa', 'What the heck is this "BabyRage" emote on twitch?', 'Twitch added a new emote that fits perfectly for how I often feel about Dark Souls. BabyRage.' Twitch never announced it, and nobody has said who or what the picture shows or where it came from.
The name says it all: chat uses BabyRage to mock whining, tantrums and childish complaints. It split opinion from day one, from 'best emote on Twitch' to 'please remove the BabyRage emote', and some channels timed it out. Big chats spammed it on every play: 'When @COG_Divios makes a hot play and the whole smite chat spams BabyRage = best thing ever'.
It also doubles as a literal baby emote for birth announcements. Twitch itself used it that way in 2020, replying to GoldGlove's pregnancy news: 'Get ready. BabyRage is coming your way. Congrats to you and @FemSteph. You're going to be great parents.'
