Context
DatSheffy is named for Sheffy, a longtime Twitch engineer whose X bio reads 'Director of Network Engineering at @Twitch - and owner of the best blue sunglasses in the world'. It appeared around June 2012, in a viewer's roll call of newer emotes: 'DatSheffy ItsBoshyTime TriHard Volcania FuzzyOtterOO'.
Inside Twitch it doubled as a thank-you to the engineer who kept the video network running. After a round of server upgrades in July 2014, Twitch's Ben Goldhaber posted 'everyone go spam DatSheffy in chat. He was on the road for 6 weeks installing all that infrastructure! #DatSheffy', and Sheffy retweeted it. In 2015 Forsen asked 'Eyy Sheffy, apparently I need your permission to use this emote'.
In everyday chat DatSheffy became a 'like a boss' signal that caps off a brag or a smug punchline: 'Liek a baws #DatSheffy' (2012). One 2012 joke cast a presidential debate entirely in Twitch emotes, with 'Obama: DatSheffy' as the calm, confident reply. Today's image carries an ID from the 2016 wave of re-uploaded emotes.
