Twitch Global Emote

duDudu stands for 'Darude - Sandstorm', the trance track whose 'du du du' riff became a running gaming joke (the answer to every 'song name?'). It started as a Twitch Turbo emote ('twitch turbo gives me a duDudu sandtorm emote', May 2015) and went global in August 2015: 'duDudu is a normal twitch emote now.'

In chat it is the hype and 'drop the beat' signal, spammed at exciting moments and during music. One streamer reported 'I just put a 9,000 viewer chat into emote only and they spammed duDudu'. Twitch made it part of its own voice, from '#duDudu! #MusicalTwitch101 is live from the Sandstorm Theater!' (2015) to '#duDudu you feel the hype?!' at E3 2016.

Darude himself became part of the story. He streamed music production on Twitch ('Song name? The legendary @Darudevil is producing some music live'), performed at TwitchCon 2016 ('Couldn't #duDudu it without you, @Darudevil.'), and in October 2016 Twitch released a history video: 'Don't know the history of #duDudu? @Atrioc tracked down Darude (@darudevil) and League of Legends pro @TSMTheOddOne to figure it out!'
