DxCat appeared in late August 2016, the week Deus Ex: Mankind Divided came out, while Twitch was running a paid campaign for the game: 'Watch @LIRIK play @DeusEx and solve emote ciphers to win copies of #MankindDivided!' 'Dx' stands for Deus Ex, the series' usual abbreviation, but neither Twitch nor the publisher has confirmed the link, and why it is a cat was never explained.
