Twitch Global Emote

GRASSLORD is Grass Lord, the costumed mascot Twitch created for TwitchCon San Diego 2024, built on the internet put-down 'touch grass'. Twitch introduced the character at the opening ceremony: 'From the corners of your dreams, through the whispers of a meme, comes our protector from the online abyss. All hail, Grass Lord, the lord of grass and all who touch it!' The emote followed that evening: 'A new global emote has sprouted on Twitch! 🌱 Show your love for nature with the Grass Lord emote-available now for all!'

All weekend attendees could take an oath and be knighted by Grass Lord ('Grass Lord is pleased. Who else will take the oath and be Knighted this weekend?'), and many creators posted their knighting photos. Twitch closed the show with 'It takes courage to go touch grass. It takes a hero to be knighted by Grass Lord. ... Grass Lord shall be back...', and its recap listed Grass Lord and a Grass Lord pin among the sights.

Grass Lord kept coming back: in an ASMR Day video, on Earth Day 2025 ('make Grass Lord proud. Tag someone who needs a reminder to touch grass today.') and at TwitchCon Europe 2025. In chat the emote is Twitch's self-aware nudge to log off and go outside, or a way to celebrate nature and IRL moments.
