Twitch Global Emote

Kappa is Twitch's signature sarcasm emote. Twitch's help center gives its meaning as "sarcasm or wry humor".

Twitch noted in November 2013 that it was used nearly 4 million times a month, it promoted a Kappa Emoticon Pack in April 2014, and in September 2015 it brought 'the original face of Kappa' on stage at TwitchCon. Golden Kappa Trains (since April 2023) grant a rare Golden Kappa for 24 hours. Kappa topped Twitch's Top Global Emotes of 2017.

Kappa also lives on in other global emotes such as KappaRoss, KappaPride, KappaClaus and KappaWealth.

Channels that don't want a global emote in their chat can block it with AutoMod. Twitch's own example: adding KAPPA or :KAPPA: to the blocked terms keeps Kappa out of the chat.
