Twitch Global Emote

MikeHogu appeared as a global emote in January 2016 without any explanation, and its origin has puzzled chat ever since. Within days viewers asked '@Twitch where did the MikeHogu emote come from', and in 2019 someone was still asking Twitch Support about 'the origin of the emote "MikeHogu" and who the emote is of'. No answer was ever found. The name suggests a person called Mike Hogu, but nobody has said who that is.

Reception was mixed, from 'What a low quality global emote.' on day one to 'MikeHogu is a top tier emote.' in 2019. In chat it mostly means sadness, self-pity or mock despair, often paired with the crying emote ('MikeHogu / BibleThump / MikeHogu / BibleThump'). Some communities adopted it as their own: a Heroes of the Storm fan called it 'JayPL's unofficial official twitch emote'.
