Twitch Global Emote

riPepperonis is a pun on 'R.I.P.' plus 'pepperonis', a jokey way of saying 'rest in peace' that was around online before the emote. It arrived in autumn 2015: by October chat was wrapping it around messages ('riPepperonis Steelo is God riPepperonis'). Who or what it shows and why Twitch added it was never explained.

In chat it mourns a loss, a death on stream, an outage or a nerf: 'That feel when your favorite character got nerfed RIPepperonis'. It is often paired with WutFace ('WutFace YOU NEED JESUS riPepperonis') and became a 'spam this to help' staple in esports chats. Twitch Support used it the same way when it retired a batch of emotes in January 2016: 'We have removed multiple global emotes from expired promotions. #riPepperonis'.
