Twitch Global Emote

Squid3 is not meant to stand alone. It is one piece of a four-part combo, Squid1 Squid2 Squid3 Squid4, typed in a row so the pieces join into one long creature across the chat line. The set appeared in May 2017 ('these new Squid1, Squid2, Squid3, etc. global emotes on @Twitch'); Twitch never said who made it or why.

Squid3 is the swappable center. Chat often replaces it with another emote, 'Squid1 Squid2 <any emote> Squid2 Squid4', so the creature seems to hold or become that emote. Repeating Squid2 to stretch the creature is why Twitch could joke in its 2017 review: 'If you read this infographic, and wonder why the Squid2 emote was more popular in than Squid1, Squid3 or Squid4 in 2017, there's only one answer. TheIlluminati.' The full combo also anchors 'SPAM THIS SQUID TO HELP…' copypasta, and during the Squid Game craze in 2021 Twitch answered 'Squid Game? Ohhhh, squid game!' with just 'Squid1 Squid2 Squid3 Squid4'.
