Twitch Global Emote

TheThing is the emote of Geoff 'iNcontroL' Robinson, the StarCraft II player, caster and streamer of Evil Geniuses. It arrived in early February 2014, when fans congratulated Geoff: 'gratz! you have your own global twitch emote! #TheThing'. Geoff confirmed it later: 'TheThing is a global emoticon on twitch..'.

In 2016 Twitch told its story in a Twitch History segment: '"I don't want to say that I was a sexual T-Rex, but I was close" @Atrioc sat down with @EGIncontrol to learn (too much) about "TheThing"!', with 'a special appearance & TheThing impression by @AnnaProsser!'

It is a StarCraft community staple. Anna Prosser once posted 'When you get banned from #WCS @Twitch chat for spamming too many "TheThing" emotes', and Twitch used it in a 2017 #FANBOYS show title. After Geoff's death in 2019, fans called for using the emote in Geoff's memory.
