This badge was given to Global Moderators, a small group of volunteer community members who had all the privileges of a channel moderator across every channel on Twitch. The role and its dark green axe badge were introduced on December 17, 2014, as an extension of the regular channel moderator role (a lighter green sword).
The program was discontinued on December 13, 2018, when Twitch thanked the final group of 16 Global Moderators and announced its end, having replaced their function with tools like AutoMod, improved channel moderation tools and an expanded internal moderation team.
