Twitch Global Emote

JKanStyle is the face of Justin Kan, co-founder of Justin.tv and Twitch, and one of the oldest emotes on Twitch (emote ID 15). In his video 'The Real Story Behind Twitch Emotes' (2021), Kan explains that chat existed before Justin.tv even launched its show in 2007. The founders 'argued incessantly on what should go into chat… but one thing we all agreed on was that we should all be able to add our faces to the chat, so you could type in JKanStyle and it would pop my face up'.

The other founders got faces too: Michael Seibel became StoneLightning, Emmett Shear became OptimizePrime, and Kyle Vogt became TheRinger. Later the team stopped adding faces, until the programmer in charge of chat 'found the easter egg that was our emojis' and added his own face: Kappa.
